One of a great crop of new rental apartments springing up in the Piasek district, H11 has soundproof rooms and all the kitchenette facilities you would expect from an aparthotel. The building is in Rajska, overlooking the distinctive Małopolska Garden of Arts complex, and in one of the most comfortable areas to stay in Kraków.

The rise of AirBnB has seen a proliferation of different hybrid hotels. Kraków is particularly fond of the aparthotel, an attempt to marry the best of both worlds. H11 has the benefit of a pleasant location in laidback Piasek. (Check availability and pricing on Booking.com or Agoda.com).
Located in a quiet side street between leafy Piasek’s Karmelicka and Krupnicza, the H11 Aparthotel is a brand-new mixed-use hotel with studio and apartment features in every room. All accommodation includes a kitchen area with fridge, coffee machine, microwave, and dishwasher. The larger apartments are divided into separate rooms and include a stovetop. The property also has an adjacent cafe serving a very decent breakfast.

Personally I’m a big fan of this area, which has a relaxed residential feel and lots of good places to eat nearby, yet is close enough to the big tourist sites. The apartments are decked out to high standards and make a fantastic, comfortable home-from-home to return to at the end of a busy day. The two-room apartments can hold up to five people. The Małopolski Ogród Sztuki arts centre a few doors down has a small canopied park area and occasionally has events suitable for non-Polish speakers.

This part of Kraków has seen a recent flurry of new apartment-style properties but, if you’re looking for a more homely base for your trip, H11 is a well-executed property in a cosy neighbourhood.

Piasek District: Just to the west of Kraków’s Old Town, residential Piasek makes a nice retreat from the main tourist areas. The area includes the main branch of the National Museum, with a permanent collection of 20th-century Polish art, and a huge expanse of urban parkland. Krupnicza has a great range of restaurants and bakeries and the upper end of Karmelicka is good for shopping. You’ll also find Forum Designu, a retro space full of the best contemporary Polish designers, and there are plenty of cosy places to stay, such as the Nobilton and Amber Boutique.
